INTRODUCTION TO YOUTH HOCKEY

Fox Valley ice arena offers free trials for children ages 3 to 12, giving them a chance to experience the basics of what hockey is and how fun an activity it can be. They will get exposed to the ice, learning what it feels like to have a pair of skates on thier feet and how it feels to stand on the ice and try to skate; get fitted for and try on hockey equipment.

HOCKEY DIRECTOR:

Tony Martino - Tony brings extensive coaching and playing experience from the NHL, Europe and Junior hockey. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Tony played professional hockey for 10 years as a goalie in North America and Europe. His philosophy involves a fun, yet structured envoirnment to introduce the sport of hockey to youngsters.

YOUTH HOCKEY PROGRAMS

Fox Valley ice arena offers playing opportunities for all levels and abilities (Beginner, Intermediate, Advancedprograms) for both boys and girls.

Beginner and Instructional Programs:

Pre Hockey (Beginners):
This program is designed for children with little or no hockey experience. It involves developing self confidence on the ice and gaining the basic fundamentals of skating such as proper stance, stopping, turning , backwards skating and agility. This is a great way to allow your child to learn the fundamentals in a fun, pressure-free environment. We emphasize safety, fun and good sportsmanship necessary to play organized hockey.

Learn to Play Hockey (Advanced Pre Hockey):
This program is the next step from Pre Hockey. Here the focus will be a more structured enviornment, introducing the youth to the basic fundamentals of the game of hockey. It involves improving skating skills, puck handling, stopping passing and shooting. The goal is to build a foundation that focuses on all the players in a positive atmosphere of fun and fair play.

House League Hockey (Cross-Ice Hockey):
When the basic skills and fundamentals have been developed from the Pre Hockey and Advanced Pre Hockey classes, the next step is to advance into hockey instruction in a team envoirnment. Cross Ice hockey introduces the experience of game playing and instruction. Practices will incorporate more skill development with puck handling, game playing & team work.
